DNC Convention Day 1
Posted on August 25th, 2008 by campmanager
Here we are at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, sort of. Actually the Missouri delegation is out in Englewood, so we will spend a fair amount of time in transit.
Got in yesterday from St. Louis on Southwest Airlines. The services they provide for travelers with disabilities is unparalelled. I get to preboard and can get my wheelchair right to the first row so I don’t have to use an aisle chair which saves everybody involved a lot of time and energy. We actually arrived half an hour early which never happens.
Enough about the travel. I got to spend a fair amount of time catching up with Congressman Lacy Clay last night. Talked about defeating the photo id bill in the Senate and the various attempts to disenfranchise voters throughout history. He’s chairing the census committee and thinks we will probably lose a Congressional seat in 2012, but hopes not.
Senator Claire McCaskill was our main breakfast speaker this morning. Everybody is excited about her speech tonight. It will be quite an event. I was talking with Betty Anne, Claire’s mom about the fact that tonight’s stage is a lot different than speaking on a stump in Boone County. We both agreed that it is unfortunate that people don’t turn out to hear the candidates in person anymore. Claire was followed by Congressman Clay and State Party Vice Chair Yolanda Wheat.
Getting ready to make the trek down to the Convention for tonight’s program. I think Claire will definitely “Show ‘Em”!
