DNC Convention Day 3

Last night was Hillary’s night and she did a great job of getting the message right. Treva Mongler from Randolph County went with me and we sat behind the California delegation with was mostly Hillary delegates. They seemed very supportive of the unity message and I am hopeful we leave Denver with one goal in mind, electing Barack Obama.
We also had a good view of Bill Clinton during the speech. For the first half of the speech, he looked like someone had shot his dog. Once Hillary mention the Clinton years and sending a healthcare bill to President Obama’s desk for him to sign, he brightened up a lot and finally seemed to enjoy himself. It will be really interesting to see what he has to say tonight.
Notables I saw yesterday included Al Sharpton, Dana Bash, Grey Davis, Joseph Lowery, Anderson Cooper, Paul Begala, Mark (I can’t think of his last name) from the Jim Lehrer News Hour. Howard Fineman sat with Bill Clinton during the speech so it would be interesting to hear his analysis.
Sometimes I feel like people watching at home know more than we do because we don’t get to see the analysis, but at the same time they don’t get to hear the speakers. Strange dichotomy.
The big hit of the night no one saw coming was Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. He was a cross between Jackie Gleason and Tim Russert. He was big and jovial and brilliant. He got the crowd really going before Hillary spoke. We definitely should get him in to speak at Demo Days next March in Hannnibal. He would be a HUGE hit.
The Carnahan family spoke at the breakfast this morning. It’s really amazing what their family has brought to the Democratic party.
All eyes on Bill Clinton tonight…let’s see if he can be the comeback kid one more time!
